Yes, MAWISTA allows retroactive enrollment if you apply within 31 days of your entry to Germany. This is useful if you arrived and haven't arranged insurance yet.
Unlike most competitors with zero deductible, MAWISTA Student has a percentage co-payment: Classic 20%, Classic Plus 15%, and Comfort 10% per insured benefit. The maximum co-payment is capped at €250 per calendar year across all plans.
No. Psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, and hypnosis are explicitly excluded from ALL MAWISTA Student plans, including the Comfort plan. If mental health coverage is important, consider Provisit Student (psychotherapy at 75%) or HanseMerkur Young Travel Profi (up to €1,000/year).
The Comfort plan covers pregnancy checkups and childbirth from day 1 with no waiting period. Classic and Classic Plus cover acute pregnancy complications immediately, but regular checkups require a 3-month waiting period and childbirth requires an 8-month waiting period.
Pre-existing conditions are generally excluded from coverage. Acute pregnancy complications are covered from day 1 on all plans. Chronic conditions requiring ongoing treatment (e.g., diabetes, asthma) are typically excluded for the entire policy term. If you have known pre-existing conditions, consider public health insurance (GKV), which covers all conditions from day one.
