Frequently Asked Questions about Care Concept Care Global
Yes, within limits. You can take out Care Global within 30 days of leaving Germany or Austria; after that only if you had a previous health insurance abroad that ended no more than 30 days before the requested start. After more than 24 months abroad it is no longer possible. Taken out from abroad, the maximum term is 6 months, the premium is higher and the contract cannot be extended. A permanent residence in Germany or Austria is required.
Care Global is paid as a one-off premium per day, depending on entry age, tier, region and whether you buy before or after departure. For ages 0–30, worldwide excluding USA/Canada/Mexico: Basic €0.95/day (€1.30 after departure), Comfort €1.30/day (€1.70 after departure). Including USA/Canada/Mexico, prices start at €2.40/day (Basic, before departure). The minimum premium is €8. Basic has a €50 deductible per insured event; Comfort has none.
Up to 12 months if you take out the policy before leaving Germany or Austria. It can then be extended once by up to 6 months through a follow-on contract, which the insurer can decline and which costs more. If you take out Care Global from abroad, the maximum term is 6 months and it cannot be extended.
Care Concept states that its policy documents (also issued in English) can be used for visa applications and that Care Global Amerika — the variant with cover in the USA, Canada and Mexico — meets the requirements of the US J-1 Exchange Visitor program. Other embassies set their own rules, so check the requirements of the relevant embassy or immigration authority before applying.

Care Global can follow on from another travel health insurance that ended abroad no more than 30 days before the requested start, for a maximum of 6 months; only illnesses and accident consequences that arise after the application are covered. An existing Care Global contract can be extended once by up to 6 months, but only if it was first taken out before departure from Germany or Austria.
