Yes. PROTRIP-World can serve as a follow-on policy when an existing international health cover ends while you are abroad. If you take it out while already abroad, a 14-day waiting period applies to illnesses (not to accidents), and conditions that already exist are not covered. Each PROTRIP-World contract runs for up to 12 months. If your stay is extended, you can apply for a follow-on policy at the conditions and rates valid at that time; it covers only cases that arise after it starts. Premiums can be paid monthly by SEPA direct debit or credit card, and unused premium is refunded if you return early.
PROTRIP-World is a worldwide travel and visitor health insurance, not a country-specific student-health product. Whether it is accepted for a particular student visa depends on that country's rules, so confirm acceptance with the embassy or university before applying.
Monthly premiums depend on age, region and when you buy, all with a €50 deductible per case. Under-30s on an educational stay who buy before departure pay €29.40 (within the EU), €38.70 (worldwide excl. USA/Canada) or €84.30 (incl. USA/Canada). Bought after departure or from age 30, rates run from €117 (up to 29) to €420 (up to 69) excluding USA/Canada, and from €240 to €936 including USA/Canada. Outpatient and inpatient treatment, medication and medically necessary repatriation are covered without limit; pain-relieving dental treatment up to €500 per case.
