Cost if you take SHIP
The 2026-27 premium for the Illinois Tech Student Health Insurance Plan (Aetna Student Health, administered by University Health Plans) is $2,510 a year (student only). It is billed to your student account unless your waiver is approved.
Annual coverage 08/10/26-08/09/27. New spring students pay $1,467 for 01/06/27-08/09/27.
Waiver deadline
Submit your waiver request before the deadline above. Universities rarely accept late waivers — if you miss it, you are auto-enrolled in SHIP and billed the full premium.
Waiver requirements
According to Illinois Institute of Technology, your alternative plan must meet these criteria (summarised — the official list is binding):
- US-filed, ACA-compliant plan from a carrier approved in the US
- Coverage active by Aug 1, 2026 and kept all year
- Routine and emergency care available in the Chicago area
- Deductible under $6,001 individual / $12,000 family
- All pre-existing conditions covered with no waiting period
- Unlimited policy-year maximum; no international, travel or short-term plans
