Cost if you take SHIP
Annual premium for the Cornell Student Health Plan (SHP) is approximately $3,400–$4,000 USD for the 2025 academic year. This is billed directly to your student account unless you successfully waive.
Waiver deadline
Submit your waiver request before the deadline above. Universities rarely accept late waivers — if you miss it, you are auto-enrolled in SHIP and billed the full premium.
Waiver requirements
Your alternative plan must meet all of the following criteria to pass the Cornell University waiver review:
- Comparable coverage valid in Tompkins County, NY
- Major medical benefit of at least $500,000
- Mental health coverage
- Prescription drug coverage
- Valid for the full academic year
