Cost if you take SHIP
The 2026-27 premium for the SMC International Student Insurance Plan (Cigna Global, provided through Academic HealthPlans) is $2,310–$2,506 a year (student only). It is billed to your student account unless your waiver is approved.
Fall $1,082 (08/25/2026-02/11/2027) + Spring $1,228 (02/12/2027-08/24/2027) = $2,310 for 12 months; new F-1 students also pay a one-time $196 pre-semester insurance surcharge in their first semester, so the first year costs $2,506.
Waiver deadline
Submit your waiver request before the deadline above. Universities rarely accept late waivers — if you miss it, you are auto-enrolled in SHIP and billed the full premium.
