Cost if you take SHIP
Annual premium for the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) is approximately $4,800–$5,400 USD for the 2025 academic year. This is billed directly to your student account unless you successfully waive.
Waiver deadline
Submit your waiver request before the deadline above. Universities rarely accept late waivers — if you miss it, you are auto-enrolled in SHIP and billed the full premium.
Waiver requirements
Your alternative plan must meet all of the following criteria to pass the UCLA waiver review:
- US-based insurer with California claims handling
- Annual benefit of at least $500,000
- Coverage for ambulance, hospitalization and mental health
- Deductible under $500
- Valid for the full enrollment term
