Annual premium for the Berkeley Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is approximately $4,500–$5,200 USD for the 2025 academic year. This is billed directly to your student account unless you successfully waive.
Waiver deadline
Submit your waiver request before the deadline above. Universities rarely accept late waivers — if you miss it, you are auto-enrolled in SHIP and billed the full premium.
Waiver requirements
Your alternative plan must meet all of the following criteria to pass the UC Berkeley waiver review:
- US-based plan or UC-approved international plan
- Minimum $500,000 annual benefit (or unlimited)
- Local in-network access in Alameda County
- Coverage for pre-existing conditions
- Mental health coverage included
