Cost if you take SHIP

The 2026-27 premium for the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) at UC San Diego is $3,195–$6,660 a year (student only). It is billed to your student account unless your waiver is approved.

Quarterly fee × 3 (Fall 2026, Winter 2027, Spring 2027; summer 2027 coverage is included in the Spring charge): undergraduate $1,065 × 3; graduate/professional $2,220 × 3.

Waiver deadline

Fall 2026: Aug 7 – Sep 11, 2026 (late until Sep 17, 2026); Winter 2027: Nov 10 – Dec 14, 2026 (late until Dec 20); Spring 2027: Feb 9 – Mar 14, 2027 (late until Mar 20); $50 late fee

Submit your waiver request before the deadline above. Universities rarely accept late waivers — if you miss it, you are auto-enrolled in SHIP and billed the full premium.

Waiver requirements

According to UC San Diego, your alternative plan must meet these criteria (summarised — the official list is binding):

• In-network PCP, hospital and non-emergency medical/behavioral care near campus
• Coverage active for the entire academic year
• Out-of-pocket maximum of $10,600 or less for an individual
• International: US claims office; English master policy with benefits in US dollars
• International: no lifetime/per-condition maximums; no pre-existing condition exclusions
• International: medical evacuation of at least $50,000; repatriation of at least $25,000
