Annual premium for the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) is approximately $4,600–$5,200 USD for the 2025 academic year. This is billed directly to your student account unless you successfully waive.
Waiver deadline
Submit your waiver request before the deadline above. Universities rarely accept late waivers — if you miss it, you are auto-enrolled in SHIP and billed the full premium.
Waiver requirements
Your alternative plan must meet all of the following criteria to pass the UC San Diego waiver review:
- US-based insurer with San Diego County network access
- Annual benefit of at least $500,000
- Mental health coverage at parity with medical
- Deductible under $500
- Coverage valid for the full enrollment term
