Annual premium for the U-M International Student Health Insurance Plan is approximately $2,600–$3,100 USD for the 2025 academic year. This is billed directly to your student account unless you successfully waive.
Waiver deadline
Submit your waiver request before the deadline above. Universities rarely accept late waivers — if you miss it, you are auto-enrolled in SHIP and billed the full premium.
Waiver requirements
Your alternative plan must meet all of the following criteria to pass the University of Michigan waiver review:
- Plan must provide in-network access in Washtenaw County, MI
- Annual benefit of at least $500,000
- Mental health and maternity coverage
- Medical evacuation and repatriation for international students
- Valid for the full enrollment term
