Annual premium for the UMN Student Health Benefit Plan (Wellmark) is approximately $2,000–$2,600 USD for the 2025 academic year. This is billed directly to your student account unless you successfully waive.
Waiver deadline
Submit your waiver request before the deadline above. Universities rarely accept late waivers — if you miss it, you are auto-enrolled in SHIP and billed the full premium.
Waiver requirements
Your alternative plan must meet all of the following criteria to pass the University of Minnesota waiver review:
- US-based plan or approved international plan
- Annual benefit of at least $500,000
- In-network access in the Twin Cities metro
- Mental health parity
- Valid for the full term
