The International/INTO OSU rate is $912 per term for Fall, Winter and Spring. Spring runs 3/21/2027-9/10/2027 and includes summer, so 3 x $912 = $2,736. This includes a $70/term administrative fee that is billed separately. A summer-only term costs $700.

Waiver deadline

Fall 2026: Sep 8 - Oct 16, 2026; Winter 2027: Dec 17, 2026 - Jan 22, 2027; Spring 2027: Mar 19 - Apr 23, 2027; Summer 2027: Jun 11 - Jul 23, 2027

Submit your waiver request before the deadline above. Universities rarely accept late waivers — if you miss it, you are auto-enrolled in SHIP and billed the full premium.

Waiver requirements

According to Oregon State University, your alternative plan must meet these criteria (summarised — the official list is binding):

  • Only three categories of international students may waive
  • Students sponsored by an embassy or cultural mission (automatic waiver)
  • Graduate Teaching Assistants and Graduate Fellows (automatic waiver)
  • Students covered by a US-based employer group plan (must request waiver)
  • One waiver request per term, within the open enrollment period

What a waiver can save

Your saving is the Oregon State University SHIP premium ($2,736 a year) minus the price of a private plan the university accepts. Private plans in our comparison start at $33/month ($396/year) for the youngest age band; plans that meet strict waiver criteria usually cost more. Compare the real price of the plan you would submit before you decide.

Notes: International students with 1 or more on-campus credits are auto-enrolled and charged every term; waivers are emailed to the Student Insurance office on OSU's form. Non-degree exchange students get GeoBlue ($587.32/term), which cannot be waived.
