Cost if you take SHIP
The 2026-27 premium for the Purdue University Student Health Insurance Plan (UnitedHealthcare, administered by Academic HealthPlans) is $1,776.40 a year (student only). It is billed to your student account unless your waiver is approved.
International student rate, medical + dental combined, Aug 1, 2026 - Jul 31, 2027 (Fall $740.17 + Spring/Summer $1,036.23).
Waiver deadline
Submit your waiver request before the deadline above. Universities rarely accept late waivers — if you miss it, you are auto-enrolled in SHIP and billed the full premium.
Waiver requirements
Purdue University does not allow waivers for most international students. Review the exceptions below and budget for the full SHIP premium.
- Only if 100% funded (incl. insurance) by home government or world organization
- Or J-1 exchange student, or covered by a US employer's US-based plan
- Policy in effect from US entry; at least $100,000 per accident or illness
- Medical evacuation of at least $50,000; repatriation of at least $25,000
- Deductible up to $500 (J-1) or $3,400 (other visas) per year
- National/socialized home-country policies are not accepted
