UConn had not published a 2026-27 premium by 30 September 2026; this is the 2025-26 annual student rate (8/1/2025–7/31/2026), including an administrative fee. The separate mandatory Student Health and Wellness Fee is not included.

Waiver deadline

Fall: Sep 15 (annual waiver); incoming Spring students: Feb 5

Submit your waiver request before the deadline above. Universities rarely accept late waivers — if you miss it, you are auto-enrolled in SHIP and billed the full premium.

What a waiver can save

Your saving is the University of Connecticut SHIP premium ($3,214 a year) minus the price of a private plan the university accepts. Private plans in our comparison start at $33/month ($396/year) for the youngest age band; plans that meet strict waiver criteria usually cost more. Compare the real price of the plan you would submit before you decide.

Notes: International students with family or home-country insurance may file the annual online waiver (Student Admin > Bursar Services > Waivers > Health Waivers), though ISSS strongly recommends the SHIP; the listed criteria are the US Department of State J-1 minimums.
